Classic Vanilla Bean French Toast

A white plate with two pieces of French toast topped with syrup. Two black vanilla pods are placed beside the French toast on the plate. In the background, a small creamer pitcher and some berries are visible, with a white tiled wall behind.

French toast is one of the best things you can do with stale bread, and this is a complete classic!
I’m starting off with something simple, cozy, and absolutely essential:
Classic Vanilla Bean French Toast made with leftover Diablo Dough sourdough.

Because honestly?
Once you taste French toast made with sourdough…
There’s no going back. Ever.

My base recipe uses:
- Thick slices of 1–2 day old sourdough
- Eggs, milk, and a dash of heavy cream
- A touch of sugar
- Pinch of salt
- And the REAL star… vanilla bean (or vanilla bean paste!)

It turns your “almost stale” bread into:

  • crisp golden edges

  • custardy centers

  • warm vanilla aroma

  • and that signature sourdough tang that makes everything taste bakery-level ✨

This is the foundation for all the wild, spooky, festive flavor twists I’ll be doing all month — sweet, savory, spicy, horror-holiday themed, and inspired by the movies we’re watching each week.
We are entering our redemption era.
